Paula Lain Smykle

MSW, LCSW–PIP

  • Presenting Paula, the driving force behind PLC and a seasoned Clinical Therapist + community leader. With a focus on aiding adolescents, tweens, college-age individuals, and highly motivated adults, Paula thrives on guiding clients through life’s challenges in a “real way”. She prides herself and her clinic on ditching the “clinical stereotype” most people think of when they seek help.

When you walk into her clinic, in the heart of downtown, you’ll find more than bright colors and upbeat music. You’ll find yourself immersed in a space that’s being held for you that invites peace and a reset away from your problems…and that’s before you step into your individual session with one of her amazing therapists.

What sets Paula apart is her therapeutic approach - she sees you as a whole person, not just as a set of issues to be addressed. She serves as your compassionate sounding board, steering clear of judgment or the role of “savior”. Paula’s aim is to help you navigate life from a more helpful perspective.

Beyond her professional realm, Paula is a proud pet parent and single mama. She shares her home with her son Calvin, her kitties, LaSalle & Lucky, and her trusty sidekick Ollie J Hamsteak.

Clinical Therapist

Rebecca Theophilus

JD, MS, LPCMH, NCC, QMHP

  • Rebecca is a dedicated Professional Clinical Therapist specializing in adults aged 18 and older. She holds a unique perspective, believing that all mental health symptoms trace back to trauma or trauma triggers of varying intensities.

In her practice, Rebecca identifies even the subtlest traumas as ‘little ‘t’ traumas’ - those sneaky culprits that quietly wreak havoc until they manifest as mysterious depression or anxiety. Rebecca addresses not only the symptoms but delves into their roots, recognizing that true healing begins at the source.

She believes that life is too short to be weighed down by unresolved issues. Because of this, she is dedicated to helping her clients expand their capacity for self-love, love for others, and a profound sense of universal love.

Counseling Canine

  • Our OG counseling dog, Ollie has been working with clients for about three years. This 90-pound “gentle giant” loves to sit regally next to you or at your feet. He likes to make you work for his affection; when you get that teeny lick or nudge for a pet, it’s all worth it. Ollie is no stranger to trauma and healing, as he is a rescue animal and had a difficult beginning as a puppy. He’s now paying it forward and ready to meet you!

it’s time to become your most authentic self
